Skyblock resets: why they happen and when to join
Skyblock is the gamemode where joining at the right time matters most. Progress compounds: every hour of grinding buys a multiplier on the next hour. Arriving three months into a season means competing with three months of compounding, and no amount of skill closes that.
Why servers reset
- Economic inflation. Money enters the economy continuously through selling and rarely leaves in equivalent volume, so prices drift until the auction house is meaningless.
- Entity accumulation. Thousands of spawners and hopper chains eventually cost more tick budget than the server has, and no configuration change fixes it permanently.
- Competitive staleness. Once the top ten islands are unreachable, the leaderboard stops motivating anyone, including the people on it.
- Content delivery. A reset is the natural moment to ship new mechanics without balancing them against existing hoards.
How to find out where you are in a season
Ask in chat, check the server's Discord announcements, or look at the top of the island leaderboard: if the number one island is a few thousand levels the season is young, and if it is in the millions it is not. Some servers advertise resets in their server message, which our pings pick up and record on the entries on the ranking page.
What usually carries over
Ranks bought with real money almost always carry. Cosmetics usually carry. In-game currency, islands, spawners and levels almost never carry. Some servers grant a head start bonus for previous-season leaderboard positions. Ask before the reset rather than after.
The practical advice
- Join in the first week of a season if you can.
- If you cannot, pick a server with a smaller player base where the top islands are reachable.
- Never invest real money into a season that is nearly over, unless you are buying something that carries.
