Using the skyblock auction house properly
On a busy skyblock server the auction house pays better per hour than any farm. It requires no island, no spawners and no grinding, only attention, and it works because a large player base constantly lists things below their value.
How it works
/ah opens it. Players list items at a fixed price or as a bid, usually paying a listing fee or a
percentage tax on sale. Listings expire after a set window and return to the seller. That expiry is important: it
means sellers who want a fast sale price below market, and those are your listings.
The three trades that work
- Flipping underpriced listings. Learn the going rate for the ten most-traded items, then buy anything meaningfully below it and relist. Unglamorous and consistent.
- Buying in bulk, selling in stacks. People list a shulker of something for a round number well under the sum of its parts. Splitting is free money.
- Supplying what farms cannot make. Event items, crate rewards, rare enchant books. Low volume, high margin, and immune to the spawner economy.
What does not work
Listing raw farmed materials that everyone else also farms. Cobblestone, common crops and basic mob drops have a server shop price that caps yours, and every other player has a surplus. If the server shop buys it, sell it there and skip the fee.
The taxes matter more than they look
A 5% sale tax on a flip you make for a 10% margin halves your profit. Work out your actual margin after the fee before deciding a flip is worth it, and prefer larger single trades over many small ones for exactly this reason. The tax is also the server's main money sink, which is why it exists and why it will not be removed.
The season warning
Auction house trading only works while the player base is large enough to produce mispriced listings. It dies in the last weeks of a season and it is worthless on a small server. If the server is quiet, go back to spawners.
