Economy
Skyblock farm designs that still work
Most skyblock income comes from a handful of farm shapes. Which ones work depends on what your server allows, so build the cheap ones first and confirm the mechanics before committing materials.
1. The cobblestone generator
Lava adjacent to water, mined repeatedly. Still the bootstrap on any server with vanilla mechanics intact, and still the first thing to build even if you will not need it, because it tells you within a minute whether the server has changed core mechanics.
2. Sugar cane, melon and pumpkin
Cheap, fully automatable with an observer clock and a piston, and the standard early income. Sugar cane is usually the best of the three because it grows in a single column and harvests cleanly. The limit is space and your server's hopper rules.
3. A spawner grinder
The main event on most servers. A dark room or platform where bought spawners produce mobs into a killing mechanism, with hoppers or a collection enchant taking the drops. See spawners and minions for the economics. The design question is only ever how you kill them: fall damage, lava, a player standing in a hole, or an automated killer if the server sells one.
4. A villager trading hall
On servers with vanilla trading intact this is often the highest-value thing you can build, because emerald trades convert cheap farmed goods into currency at a fixed rate that ignores the player economy. Check first: many skyblock servers nerf or disable trading precisely because of this.
5. An iron farm
Reliable, entirely passive, and the material feeds almost everything else. Expensive to build and heavy on entity count, so check the server's mob cap rules before you start.
The one that gets you a warning
Anything that runs a very high tick cost for its output: enormous hopper chains, water-flow item transport across chunks, or a farm that keeps hundreds of entities alive at once. These are not usually against the rules, they simply make you the reason the server lags, and staff will ask you to change it. Building with fewer entities and shorter hopper runs from the start avoids the conversation entirely.
Before you build anything
- Are hoppers limited per island or per chunk?
- Is there a mob cap, and is it per island or per world?
- Do spawners stack, and to what maximum?
- Is villager trading intact?
