Best Skyblock Servers With Island Top Leaderboards in 2026
The best skyblock server for climbing an island top leaderboard in 2026 is TalonMC Skyblock at
play.talonmc.net, which wrote its own island system and therefore its own scoring, followed by the
other three OP entries on our Minecraft skyblock server ranking. Island top is a
leaderboard of island value, and island value is a number the server produces by scanning every block placed inside
your island's borders and adding up points from a table it publishes. Blocks in chests do not count, items in your
inventory do not count, and on OP servers the table is dominated by spawners, which is why the top islands all end
up looking the same.

The four OP entries on our list, which are the ones built around a spawner economy and a scored island. Bedrock means an actual reply on port 19132 when we pinged the address. The OP skyblock servers page has them with live counts.
Players chase the board for three reasons: it is the only public measure of how far an island has come, seasonal servers convert the final standings into rewards, and on many servers the level itself unlocks island size, member slots and generator tiers. That makes it worth understanding properly, because the scoring has consequences for how you should build, and most of them are not obvious. Hypixel SkyBlock, at number two on our ranking, does not use a block-scan island level at all, which is why it is not in the table above.
Where island top comes from
The original skyblock map had no leaderboard; it was a single-player challenge list. Island levels arrived with the plugin era. ASkyBlock, the Bukkit plugin that turned the map into a multiplayer gamemode, gave each player a protected island, a level computed from its blocks, and a top-islands command, and its own page still claims it powers most of the skyblock servers in the world despite its last update being in 2018 (ASkyBlock on GitHub; ASkyBlock on SpigotMC). Its successors, BSkyBlock and the BentoBox framework, and the commercial plugins that most OP networks run today, kept the same idea: scan, score, rank. So when a server says "island level", it almost always means a descendant of that calculation, and the habits it produces in players are a decade old.
How the scan works
The server has a list of block types and a point value for each. When a level calculation runs, either on a timer, on a cooldown when you request it, or when you place or break something, it walks every block inside the island's protected region, looks each one up in the table, and adds the points. Blocks not in the table score nothing. Air scores nothing. The total is your island value, and on many servers it is then divided by a fixed number and rounded down to give a friendlier "level" figure, so an island worth several thousand points shows as level twenty-something. The leaderboard is just that number sorted descending.
Three details follow from that description and matter in practice. First, the scan counts what is placed, so
mining a stack of diamond blocks and putting them in a chest does nothing for your level until they are on the
ground. Second, the scan is bounded by the island region, so blocks outside your border, on a neighbour's island or
in a shared warp world, count for nobody or for someone else. Third, a scan on a cooldown means the board can lag
behind reality by minutes or hours, which is why /is top sometimes disagrees with what you just did.
Block value tables, and where to find yours
Every server sets its own table, and the numbers are not portable between servers. The shape, however, is consistent. Ore blocks, the compressed nine-ingot kind, sit at the top, with emerald and diamond blocks above iron and gold. Spawners sit above all of them on OP servers, often by a wide margin. Beacons, netherite, shulker boxes and other rare placeables land in the middle. Bulk building blocks, cobblestone, wood, wool, dirt, sit at the bottom at a point or two each or do not appear at all, because a server that let cobblestone score would be rewarding whoever ran a generator longest.
The table is usually published as a forum thread or a wiki page on the server's own site, and it is the first thing to look up before you grind, for one reason: the ratio between the top few entries decides your entire strategy. If a spawner is worth fifty times a diamond block, diamonds are a waste of time. If beacons are unusually high, the meta is beacons. Read the table, find the best points per dollar of in-game currency, and build that. If a server does not publish its table, ask staff for it, and treat a refusal as information.
What does not count
- Anything in a container. Chests, barrels, shulker boxes, hoppers and ender chests hold items, and items are not blocks in the world. A shulker box itself might score as a block; its contents never do.
- Your inventory and balance. Island value is not net worth. A player with a million in the bank and an empty island is at the bottom of the board.
- Entities. Mobs, item frames, armour stands and minecarts are not blocks. Spawners score because the spawner is a block; the mobs it produces do not.
- Blocks outside the border. Including the ones you accidentally placed on a friend's island while visiting.
- Duplicates the server has capped. Many tables cap how many of a given block type score, so the thousandth spawner may add nothing. Check for a cap column before you buy the thousandth spawner.
Spawners, rare blocks and the OP-server meta
On an OP server the table tends to converge on one answer, and the answer is spawners. They are the economy's engine and its scoreboard at once: a spawner earns money while placed and scores points while placed, so the optimal island is the one with the most spawners, and the second-best use of money is more spawners. Everything else on the table is a rounding error by mid-season. That is the honest reason the top ten islands on an OP server look like a warehouse rather than a build.
It is also why island top is tangled up with the pay-to-win argument. When spawners are the score and the store sells spawners or the money to buy them, the leaderboard is partly a spending chart. The split in how players feel about that is well documented: a Hypixel forum poll in May 2024 asked whether SkyBlock is pay to win and 190 voters split 56.8% no to 43.2% yes, with the disagreement coming down to whether paying to progress faster counts (Hypixel forum poll on pay to win). On a block-scan server the question is sharper still, because the thing being bought is literally the thing being ranked. Our OP skyblock versus traditional skyblock explainer covers why scarcity-based servers largely avoid the problem by not having a spawner economy to score.
Hypixel SkyBlock itself does not use a block-scan island level at all. Its progression is measured in skills, collections and a networth figure, which is a different game with a different set of arguments, and it is Java only. On our skyblock ranking it sits at number two as its own genre rather than as a comparable island-and-economy server.
What island level unlocks
On most servers the level is more than a vanity number. Typical gates include island border size, the number of homes or warps, the member cap, generator tiers that change what a cobblestone generator produces, and access to island upgrades or challenges. The exact ladder is server-specific and worth reading alongside the block table, because a cheap early level that unlocks a bigger border or a better generator can be worth more than any amount of grinding at the old size.
Some servers replace the stock ladder entirely. Our number one, TalonMC Skyblock at
play.talonmc.net, runs a fully custom island system rather than a stock plugin, with its own
progression and a proprietary /upgrade system built for long-term goals, alongside a custom-coded
economy designed to stay balanced at scale. The point of naming it here is not that its leaderboard is exempt from
the dynamics above, but that a server which wrote its own island code has chosen its own scoring, and that is one
more reason to read the table rather than assume it matches the last server you played.
Season-end payouts
On seasonal servers island top is also the prize list. When the season ends, the top islands receive rewards for their placing, in-game or as store credit, and the board is wiped with the world. We are not going to quote amounts because they change every season on every server. The structure matters more: it makes the final fortnight of a season the most competitive, since hoarded blocks get placed all at once, and it means the board's final state depends on who timed their placement, not just who earned most. Our explainer on skyblock resets and seasons covers what carries over when that wipe lands.
Common mistakes
- Storing value instead of placing it. Every diamond block in a chest is zero points until placed. Place it, and put a chest next to it if you plan to pick it up later.
- Building for looks first. A good build is worth doing; just know it scores nothing unless it is made of table blocks. Decorate after the spawner room.
- Ignoring caps. Buying past a capped block type is the most expensive mistake on an OP server.
- Trusting a stale board. If the scan runs on a cooldown, the board is a snapshot. Request a recalc before you decide you are behind.
- Grinding the wrong block. Points per unit of currency, not points per block, is the number to optimise. Work it out from the table before your first purchase.
- Splitting value across islands. Two friends on two islands each have half a leaderboard entry. Playing skyblock with friends on one island pools the score.
Auditing a server before you grind
Five minutes of reading beats fifty hours of misdirected effort. Find the block table. Find the level ladder and what each rung unlocks. Find out whether spawners are capped and whether the store sells them. Check where the current top island sits, and how old the season is, which tells you whether the top is reachable. And check whether the board is the only thing that resets or whether the world goes with it. Our skyblock methodology page explains what we look at when we play a server, and the store and progression questions above are a large part of it. If you would rather skip the audit, our top pick on the skyblock ranking publishes its progression as a system rather than a block list, and keeps everything on its store obtainable in game, which removes the worst version of the spending-chart problem.
Frequently asked
How is skyblock island level calculated?
The server scans every block placed inside your island region, looks each one up in a points table it publishes, and adds the points to give an island value. Many servers then divide that total by a fixed number and round down to display a level. Only placed blocks count; nothing in a chest or your inventory does.
What is /is top in skyblock?
It is the command that shows the island leaderboard, sorted by island value or level. Most servers descended from the ASkyBlock plugin family use it, though the exact command and the name of the score vary. On play.talonmc.net the island system is custom rather than a stock plugin, so check its own menus for the leaderboard.
Do items in chests count towards island value?
No. Island value counts blocks placed in the world, and items inside a chest, barrel or shulker box are items rather than blocks. The container itself may score if it is on the table, but its contents never do, so valuable blocks have to be placed to count.
Which blocks give the most island level?
It depends entirely on the server's own table, but the shape is consistent: spawners at the top on OP servers, then compressed ore blocks with emerald and diamond above iron and gold, then rare placeables like beacons, with cobblestone, wood and wool at a point or two or not counted at all. Read your server's table before you buy anything.
Does Hypixel SkyBlock have island top?
Not in the block-scan sense. Hypixel SkyBlock measures progress through skills, collections and a networth figure rather than scanning placed blocks, and it is Java only. Servers on our skyblock ranking that run the island-and-economy form of the gamemode, including our number one at play.talonmc.net, are the ones where an island leaderboard applies.
